#10: How would you like to be taught English? What is the role of the student-teacher? How could we make sure everyone is involved?

On March 9, we re-write a contents of commuity service. We focus on the student's site in duscussion. I thought how I would like to be taught English if I were student. I want to study the basic steady before starting the reading, speaking and writing. It is fact taht vocabulary is very important factor to study English, but I think that a thing which makes vocabularies become phrase is grammar. Our duty is to teach English basicaly to let our parents talk with teachers, not to teach difficult vocabularies. It is also a role of person teaching anything. Things we can do for our parents are to be earnestness for them, and not to let them hate English.

Blog #9: What we did today. What do you think about planning to teach a language lesson?

We discussed about “Teaching Plan” and “Language Lesson Plan” in Value Class on three March. We told about how we are going to teach English to Our parents. In especially, Teaching Plan’s contents are the way of teaching English and particular words. In the other hand, Language Lesson Plan’s contents are to choose language to learn and communicate, and preparations of lesson from beginning to end.

According to them, I thought a vocabulary list and a configuration of grammar are the important for this service learning. What is necessary to read the sentence? Sentence is made words, words are vocabulary. Sentence has a role, that role is the grammar. It is impossible to understand the meaning of sentence without them. Therefore, I think we have to teach side by side between the vocabulary list and the configuration of grammar for our parents.

#7 What happened in class today and what you think about

On February 19th, our group shared community service proposal with other group, then others gave as important information what we made mistake. Ms. Jo Anne gave us advice that we need to change the date. In fact that I will leave on march 13, therefore I cannot say strongly anything, Haruna decided to start our community service project on March 21 to May 2. ecently girls planned anything without discussion with men. When I was about to ask anything, they may say that men did not anything. I understand that we have problem which more dangerous than fault of community service because it cannot be success unless we cooperate. In last class I decided to make communication with them. And our goal is to let parents read and understand parent's association and student activity and event in English.

I participated community service activities on last Saturday. It was to treat Thai children who want to study English. I left from school at 10:15 am, so I could not do it for long time. But I saw that they satisfied to come school. I think it is good.

#6 Reflection on the last class

Our group received a lot of useful information from Ms. Jo Anne and classmates to start the community service project proposal in value class. We filled up points which we needed for being good community service. Because our plan had some faults of chosen ESLRs. We did put Caring global Citizens up, even though there are only Japanese. According to it, we cannot achieve it. In addition, we except for girls must understand that our biggest mistake is that we depended on Haruna. She made up most of plan, and strategies and way of it. We must discuss more and more. She said that our ESLRs must change to "The effective communicator in English" and "Team Player." Both strategies are that we must do it positively and activity. And we must change way of teaching English. Being easy to understand is the most important to study anything, we did not notice what we study in RIST. English and Japanese are same language: therefore, I think that using English for everyday is necessary key to learn English. However, we must think Japanese mothers’ life. Balance of life and study is also important. "The effective communicator in English" and "Team Player" indicate that we must cooperate together. We want to aim to good ending of everybody,

5. community service proposal

Last class, we've planed to teach English for Japanese mothers as our community service topic. As for the program, we will teach Basic English and how to do the conversation with teachers in RIST for one hour or one four half on per Sunday at place where they can assemble like a Sukhmvit. The cost of the lesson is 100 bath, we planned to use it for a charity. The reason why we teach English to them is that Japanese mothers said that they are always suffering from an interview face to face with teachers when they go to school since they cannot speak and listen what they say well. I think being facility of their ability to use English surely get in connect with good relationship between Japanese mothers and teachers. In your plan, we will teach English with dictionary and short stories to being understood easily for them. According to ESLRs, we always have to think how we can help people be international. In my group, we most use Caring Global Citizen, Self-Directed learner, and Complex Thinker. In my international person is man/woman who does not have cultural bias and listen what others tell exactly and speak what want to tell. We think Caring Global Citizen, Self-Directed learner and Complex Thinker are necessary to be so and for their Needs.
The needs, we hope we will meet getting through to, is a mutual understanding between people without borderline of countries. I experienced that language is just tool of telling and knowing what the other and I think, so obtaining a tool is what Japanese mother want.

#4 What have I found out about my community's needs? Re-write

In values class, we discussed what our community need in the group. I was dusccussing with Taku, Yuka, Haruna, and Ayaka aboutcommunity service. As a result of our discussion, we planned to teach English to our parents. According to interview as our parents, they said they want to study English to be able to do conversation in English for they need to speak English when they go to the school. According to our discussion, we decided to be going to teach them on every Sunday and about for 1 hour or 1 hour and half. Regarding the place to teach, we planned the best places is the student’s house All Japanese student lives in Sukhumvit Road, so they and we can assemble easily. And assembling at the student’s place can decrease the waste of a cost. The cost that they can pay is about 50 baht to 100 baht. After we interviewed and discussed about them, we started discussing about how to teach English to them. We planed that we teach the basic vocabulary and conversation in using English which we use in RIST and we would like to use the picture and short stories. Of course, they are still not even the beginner of English learner, so they can use dictionary in English to Japanese. We want they enjoy studying English.

3, Needs of my Community

My group; Ayaka, Haruna, me, Taku, Yuka in value’s class discussed about the Needs and Gap analysis for teaching English to Thai workers in RIST, and then I thought how I can contribute myself for my community. Those who are parents mostly do not have ability to speak and use English, thus, we made decision and planned a program use our experience in English life for them. We have experiences which is a being thought English by Japanese teachers and foreigners. Therefore, we have more ways to teach it than people who do not have such experiences. In fact and according to our survey, Japanese parents want to learn English for they have probabilities to teach Englishness articles or events. As the beginning and end of each term, they have to go school and face to teachers, so it is not wondering that they want to learn one. In addition, some of them would like to make foreign friends. Fortunately all they live in Sukhumvit, we can assemble at same place easily. As for the way of teaching, we infer that a teaching basic vocabulary, using picture and using dictionary as they read kind story of book are necessary for the beginning of English learner. Parents said that they can pay until 100bath per lesson, and hope one to one half ours on Sunday. We plan that the lesson is at someone’s house, it’s for a decreasing expenses of materials. We want to be happy by knowing English, for that, we want to achieve exactly it.

2, Reflection as for five articles

After we finished a reading five articles I start thinking how to make a difference for me. That key point is in these articles.
A writing characteristic is better to understand than a reading one, I learned from last assignment. I found that all chief characters have each purpose. But I think that only having purpose is not enough. An achievement needs power, which called motive or reason. But the having purpose is the most important essence to be a difference than oneself of a past. But we could not achieve purpose without a motive and reason. All chief characters found them in their society, and they became differently as same as they resolved their issue. So we must have a wide view, as possible as seeing many world issue, and start making a motive and reason.

1,2 ver How one make a difference?

Everyone has own idea and taste. You also have things existing yourself and there is only one in an around world. Such them make a difference. Therefore, I define that the making difference is the same as a improving one self. There are people improving it in five articles. From five stories, there are five ways to improve one self. They are a deciding choice by one self, a trying a new thing that you cannot do, a having own faith, a creating idea to do thing that you want to do, an understanding a problem and facing it. And a understanding what problem is for you and what should you do for resolving. They show five differences which only they have.

At first, the deciding choice by one self is one of important factor to make a difference. Do you think that person, is always chosen how to do, can make a difference? I do not think so. In the Put a Little Love in Your Heart, “I wanted to get stronger, not weaker, to heal emotionally and physically, so I did not allow it to look at the minuses, only the plisses. It is always a choice, and I chose to concentrate on getting stronger, on appreciating all I have.” Petra Nemcova said at page 180, paragraph 4, line 6 to page 181, first paragraph, line 1 to 2. Being able to decide what to do is not easy, I knew. I always stare other’s thinking before deciding. I do not have a confidence to decide my way by my self, so I need to check how others do and think. So, I impressed her thinking. There are lots of the weak who complain to society. But, I start thinking after reading this story that there is an equality of chance and people who only complain is just people who miss the choice. Put a Little Love in Your Heart teaches us that a person who decided the choice is a difference.

At second, the trying a new thing that you cannot do is essential to make a difference. I think that the doing a challenge is difficult, but that motive power for an action is very big. Do you remember Tomo and Pueng? I saw that they are bright and powerful for they do the best for their dream. I saw they are difference. Dave Seegar in Everyone Needs to Eat says “I did not know if I could make a difference, but I had the conviction to try” at page 197, first paragraph, line 7 to 8. Although he is not cool at the first part, he seems to be powerful, and that he never change a mind. I learned that a having challenge has big power; therefore, person having it is seemed differently.

At three, the having own faith is very important factor to make a difference. The having own faith is necessary things to improve one self. Conversely a having same faith with the other is easy, it needs a decisive to have own faith. Especially most Japanese feel that it is difficult decisive because there have been a thinking that the doing same things with the other is a good in Japan since long ago. So I cannot pretend things Anita in The Potholed Road from Shy to shining does: “I knew in my heart that I had to do something, no matter what.” Page 214, first paragraph, line 9. And she goes to Banjul again to help children. To do a thing which none of all does means that she makes difference. In a process she acts at another hospital in Bansang, she sees a death of one child. Then I predict that she goes back to her country again: however, she goes back to make supporters to help children in Bansang hospital. Even though she called herself “shyest person”, as a result, she achieves the revival of a ruins hospital. To make a difference is necessary to do things that nobody does.

At fourth, a creating idea to do thing that you want to do is necessary to make a difference. A using idea that only you can create is useful to make a various as the other. An idea is that everyone has diversity; there is a lot of expression in each brain. Doris Richard in Fighting for Dog Park creates lots of idea that none of all able to concept. When the tree Doris ordered to put in a park is fall, "so, we spent hours stringing leaves on them, orange and red leaves like those on an artificial Christmas tree!" Page 189, paragraph 3, line 4. In my case, I may give up continuing the park. He considered as he is useless, his ideas are useful. A making idea that nobody can create is a kind of talent. It is not unsure that everyone has such a talent; it is evidence that a having person is difference. The idea that only one can create makes a holder outstand exactly.

At fifth, the understanding what problem is for you and what should you do for resolving it is finally important for a making difference. I think that a making task for oneself is very efficiently to change or improve oneself. That task is kind of things that you must surmount; you can be a different as you finish that task. When Reverend AI Sharpton got a problem between black and white, he says that “I became totally enthralled with the civil rights movement and the social justice movement.” Page 206, paragraph 2, first line. And he got great three mentors, “Because of this, I was raised with a sense of being a minister, being an activist, and making a mark.” Page 206, paragraph 4, first line. He become a person knowing condition of black, and started resolving it. He was an ignorance of the ways of the world: however, he obtained a wide view and solution. It is also thing, being my cherished opinion, which an adversity makes a person strongly.

As a result, the way of changing oneself is that we have to change our inside. None of all can change us, only we can change ourselves. I learned that we must believe ourselves to change ourselves from those who decided, challenged, believed, having confidence, and assumed oneself.

1. How can one make a difference?

Everyone has peculiar ideas and tastes. You also have things, existing yourself, so do I. Such a peculiar sensitivity makes the difference. Therefore, I think making difference means believing one self. There are people, believing it, in five articles. They show five differences which only they have in the world.
At first, having own ideas is the most important thing to make a difference. Everyone in the world is going to give their opinion and ideas, you have to do to ascertain it and decide it to adopt or reject. In the Fighting for a Dog Park, Doris does not change her state, protesting the dog and place of dog and owner of dog. Although oppresses complain the unit, Doris attaches, her insistence change nothing. Thing, Doris likes dog, is difference with the other.
At second, considering before action is an important thing to do a thing what you want to do exactly. Confusion makes you hesitate carrying out, you may become not having achieving your goal. Anita Smith, appears in The Potholed Road from Shy to Shining, could not go to help in front of children being danger. Then I did not think she is not helpless. The scene, Anita worried and thought to go to help them, makes her character which has difference sense with other people, surrounding her. According her decision, she changed shining from shy. Anita became a person who only Anita can be. And Petra Nemcova, in Put a Little Love in Your Heart, decides to people indulging by the TUNAMI by himself.. His decision is also only thing he has.
At third, Having wide field of vision is important thing to be a difference, since doing the same thing with the other does not need to have wide field of view. As you encounter the people, having nothing: even room in heart, could you think giving something except promptly things? In Born to be a Rabble-Rouser, Reverend Al wants to make the fair between Black and White. It is a thing, concerned the problem by the world for long time and Black hopes. But, in Everyone Needs to Eat, Davit is about to give not only food to people living the city where Davit visits. He is about to give gentleness. As I read it, I impressed because I always think the same since I came Thailand. But it’s my experience that all different vision is not loved by the other. The other is the one concerned. Giving something like a feeling or thinking is to deny their feeling and thinking.
As a result, these things are very important to make a difference. I think people cannot be the same person except for similar person, therefore being difference or original personality, we have to have own ideas, tastes and sensitivity. Have yourself.
